Over 120 woman and a few good men gathered on the morning of April 13th, the early spring sun shined on tables covered in white linen through the Grand Rapids Downtown Market windows.

Tough Skin, Soft Heart powered by Shannon Cohen, Inc. had us leaning at the edge of our seats and nodding our heads a she gave voice to the struggles we face as high achieving Business Women and leaders. With intentional pauses Shannon guided us through times of introspection, to connect with our neighbors and vulnerability was welcomed into the room. We honored our Past Presidents in attendance Lola Audu - 2013, Lindsey Dykstra - 2020, and Brooke Finlan - 2021. We also greeted Stacey Krolak 2024 National Treasurer Candidate who attended via zoom. We thanked our leadership team, Diamond Sponsors RE/MAX OF GRAND RAPIDS & GUILD INLANTA MORTGAGE. Rachael Veldkamp and Sherlynn James of RE/MAX OF GRAND RAPIDS led the. Pledge of Allegiance. Jonathan Arnold shared his story of inspiration while giving credit to his leading ladies, Stephanie Wood and Katrina Cole at Guild Inlanta Mortgage. 5 of our Rockstar brunch Tickets were sponsored by Kellie Johnson, of Blue Moon Estates. We concluded the morning with giveaways and raffling off 10 Tickets to the Rockstar Woman Brunch which will be held on 9/24/2023. Our Ambition is not cutthroat, its collective! Women lined up to take pictures with Shannon Cohen, purchase merchandise, to connect and network and take pictures. Everyone joined us October 12th for a good use of their time. Time management, when you just don't have enough! Kathey Batey took a humorous look into the mind of a busy woman to see what motivates her to be: Superwoman, Martyr, Manager, Problem Solver, Referee (and all before breakfast!). Are we living out our priorities or are we a “reflex” to our own lives? Live what matters!
It is time to start thinking about 2018 and electing officers for our local WCR chapter. Please submit all applications by Tuesday, October 10th. The Nominating Committee will review the applications and compile the slate of officers. We will vote at our October 12th monthly Breakfast meeting and announce our new 2018 officers at that time. Fall was in the air which means football, apple cider, colored leaves, and hoodies. We celebrated the season change together. All WCR members were invited, and we wanted you to bring a friend! Halfway through the mix & mingle, our president Ashley Dietch-Schaefer discussed what WCR is all about and the opportunities that go with being a member. One drink ticket and appetizers were provided for attendees.
For the September breakfast, we were honored to have Nobu Hata speak. Nobu works for NAR as the Director of Member Engagement. He talked about how the industry is evolving; what we need to focus on and what to not to get distracted by. For example, what does the increasing use of virtual reality mean for Realtors? Will Zillow be a threat to our profession? You found out if you were at the September breakfast!
Our current 2017 President-Elect resigned and now we are looking for an immediate replacement. This position is open to any REALTOR member. The 2017 President-Elect will become the 2018 President of the Western Michigan network of the Women's Council of Realtors.
