As we kick off our first breakfast program of the year, we welcome Andy Lofgren of the Home Builders Association (HBA). Andy is going to talk about construction trends over the last year and what is expected in 2017. He will cover everything from consumer design preferences to market statistics. We will also hear from Tom Cronkright of Sun Title who serves on the board of the HBA. This year, all of our breakfast programs will be held at Kent Country Club. We are excited about the central location and are looking forward to a great 2017.

What is the HBA?
The Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids (HBAGGR), a professional nonprofit trade organization, was founded by 18 builders, and chartered by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in 1945. Its members are committed to providing quality homes, buildings, renovations, products and services for the entire region through adherence to ethical practices, community involvement, advocacy and education. According to Harold Albert (who was President of the HBAGGR in 1950), “We organized the Association because we realized that we would accomplish more by working together. We realized that every business has to be organized to look after their interests. We wanted to further the standard of the profession so that the good builders would be members of the association and bad builders would not.” Today, the HBAGGR has over 500 company members. Roughly one third of these are contractors who hold a builder’s license with the State of Michigan, and the remaining companies are suppliers who provide products and services to the building industry.

Andy Lofgren, Executive Officer, Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids
Andy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Michigan and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie-Mellon University. He has 30 years of experience in economic and housing development. This includes stints with the National Association of Home Builders, the City of Kenosha, Wisconsin, the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and the Newaygo County Economic Development Office. Andy has been the Executive Officer with HBAGGR since August 2015. |
