At the September breakfast program we heard an update from Jeff Olsen, the Director of Development for 616. As Director of Development, Jeff oversees the entire construction process through the point of stabilization. Before the shovel hits the ground, he is working in the hind ground with city officials and associated neighborhoods, collaborating on design, zoning, and other project specific details. Jeff makes sure that the 616 noble purpose is carried out through the highest and best use of each and every one of their projects. It was exciting to hear about 616 Developments progress and what new projects may be on the horizon.

It is time to start thinking about 2017 and electing officers for our local WCR chapter. The window for submitting an application is now through September 21, 2016. The Nominating Committee will review the applications and compile the slate of officers. We will vote at our October 13th monthly Breakfast meeting and announce our new 2017 officers at that time. If you ever wanted to begin a leadership path that could take you to a national leadership level , now is the time. Remember our theme to "Fulfill your dream in 2016" is real. Benefits of being part of leadership include experience, recognition, and credibility. There are also educational benefits and covered travel expenses. Start now, fill out the application and send it to our Nominations Committee Chairperson, Shelley Frody shelleyfrody@city2shore.com.
The 19th Annual Golf Outing took place at the beautiful Thornapple River Golf Club. The weather showed us a nice relief from the heat. It was a great day of golf, food, networking, and fun! A big thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, and attendees.
REALTORS across the United States increasingly operate within multi-cultural business environments which are strikingly diverse. The course was designed to equip REALTORS with an understanding of how to increase their Cultural Intelligence and leverage the unique benefits which can be obtained through being culturally proficient. It was a pleasure to hear Lola Audu (WCR Western Michigan President 2013) speak on the subject.

Thanks to all who joined us for breakfast and conversation with marine, businessman, and former Ambassador Peter Secchia. Ambassador Secchia served in the US Marine Corps. He graduated with a degree in Economics from Michigan State University and holds honorary doctorate degrees from several universities including his alma mater. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Universal Forest Products, Inc. and Chairman of River City Food Company. Honored in 1994 as Michigan’s Master Entrepreneur of the Year, Ambassador Secchia was recognized as the state’s outstanding self-made businessman. In 1995, the Economic Club of West Michigan named him “Businessman of the Year.” It was a treat to hear some of his insight.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for our member appreciation party and spring mixer. This event was to celebrate our members and was held at the beautiful Stonewater Country Club. Appetizers and drink tickets were provided. We played some fun networking games as well. This event was for members only.
Many tuned in to our March breakfast program "The Networking Marathon" Talk Show. We discussed strategies to grow and sustain your business through your network. Along with diving deep into networking, we also covered public relations and community service. Those three topics make solid building blocks for consistent and long term business success. The lovely hosts Micki Ackerman and Sue Pastoor asked the tough questions that only experience can answer. For that experience, we are brought in special guest Mark Allen of the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce.
It's time to play FEUD! The Michigan Mortgage Lenders Association (MMLA) and WCR West Michigan joined together for this breakfast program. We explored the Realtor and lender relationship in a Family Feud style game/discussion. How can we make transactions seamless for our clients? What makes a great Realtor or a great lender? How much of an impact has TRID had on transactions? What creates panic to close? How can we work better together? To answer these questions, we had three lenders from the MMLA and three Realtors from WCR participate. We surveyed members of both groups to find the most popular answers. Thanks to everyone who joined us as we dove deep into the dynamics of the lender/Realtor relationship and found out what the "survey says..."
For the first luncheon of the year, we welcomed John Tenza who is an international sales & presentation coach. He began as a top-selling real estate agent and manager in Detroit, and has since trained thousands of Realtors, teachers, salespeople, business owners, managers, health care providers, college enrollment teams, credit union staff and others who want better professional and personal connections. Buying and selling a product or service can be an emotional and high stakes decision. John thinks you must understand a client’s expectations & perspective, then adapt your presentation to produce the very best results. These same concepts apply to whatever your work may be, as well as enhancing your daily life. Thanks to all who attended!
